My book (On the Ground) in Barnes and Noble in Union Square.
Was just killing time staying warm in Barnes and Noble yesterday like any regular bum and saw a stack of my book chilling right up front on the New Non-Fiction table. I know the promo shit can get to be a bit much, but yo trust me it’s not often that I’ll admit publicly to being in Barnes and Noble. Big up to the rogue employee that put the book out.
For any NYC people looking to pick up the book Strand, St. Mark’s, and Bluestockings are also showing mad love with big stacks displayed prominently, and I’ve seen it on the shelves in McNally Jackson, Greenlight in Fort Greene, Unnameable (slept on little store on Vanderbilt in Prospect Heights), and Community in Park Slope. It’s out there…
And finally here’s a little review by Peter Richardson, who wrote A Bomb in Every Issue: How the Short Unruly Life of Ramparts Magazine Changed America

Between the art and the first-person accounts, On the Ground is above all immediate.

Dugald Stermer, Ramparts (1966)

An object lesson in what naturally follows when a man receives a small printing press and some assorted type faces as a Christmas gift from his wife.

Continues
Sadly, Stermer, who was art director of the legendary Bay Area muckraking magazine Ramparts during its most influential period in the late sixties, passed away last week. Peter Richardson has a nice tribute over at truthdig.com and Robert Newman re-posted an interview with Stermer at spd.org
