Innovation is rich in these parts, from the Good Life Cafe to the furthest reaches of the poetic cosmos. Often, like master horn players, the Heavyweights flex spontaneous, fast-tempo abstractions with endurance and emotion, and while each member shines, the cipher blazes. This team of champions also celebrates the use of live instrumentation while they freak words, coil words and aggress. Taking their rhymes beyond stagnant monotones, the Heavyweights move into polyphony and diverse frequency fluxes. Straight out of L.A. is this sound collage—free-form, streetwise and profound.
