PLO style, buddha monks with the owls
Black September. On September 6, 1970 the PFLP faction of the PLO hijacked four planes. One of those hijacking attempts failed leading to the death of one of the hijackers and the capture of their leader Leila Khaled. The hijacked planes were re-routed to a former RAF field in Jordan called Dawson’s Field. The next day another plane was hijacked and also re-routed to Dawson’s Field, where they sat with hundreds of passengers held as hostages. In exchange for the release of the hostages the PFLP demanded the release of various comrades of theirs including the recently captured Leila Khaled. On September 12 the PFLP released 255 of the hostages, holding 56, and blew up the three planes. By the end of September the hostages were safely exchanged for Leila Khaled and their comrades being held in Switzerland and Germany.
